CONNEX Negotiation Support

The G7 CONNEX initiative supports governments of emerging economies in the negotiation of large-scale, complex investment contracts in the mining, infrastructure and renewable energy sectors. Estab­lished at the 2014 G7 Summit in Brussels, CONNEX became operational in 2017 with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is now cofinanced by the European Union (EU), Norway and UK International Development. Since then, CONNEX’s support has assisted partner countries with contract negotiations, strengthening domestic resource mobilisation and promoting sustainable investments. The CONNEX Support Unit, a small Secretariat overseen by a Governing Board and an Advisory Committee and hosted by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, carries out the day-to-day activities and works closely with our global network of 100+ experts to match the needs of requesting countries. Our experts provide multidisciplinary, short-term, and tailored assistance to maximise national benefits and strengthen domestic resources. CONNEX’s support is donor-funded - meaning our services come at no cost.
