The Press Council, composed of an equal number of representatives from publishers and journalists, is the supreme self-regulatory body for the news media in Luxembourg. It is the author and guardian of the Code of Ethics, which defines the rights and responsibilities of publishers and professional journalists in the country. The Press Council’s tasks are diverse and include, among others: issuing official press cards to professional journalists, handling complaints from individuals regarding information published in the media, examining issues related to freedom of expression in the media, and organizing training for aspiring and established journalists. The Press Council also organizes annual events dedicated to media literacy, such as the "Young Journalist Competition." The Press Council is a member of the Alliance of Independent Press Councils of Europe (AIPCE) www.presscouncils.eu. Established by the law of December 20, 1979, the Press Council is a legal public entity, governed by the law of June 8, 2004, on freedom of expression in the media, as amended on April 11, 2010.
