About Canadian Open Parkinson Network (C-OPN)

The Canadian Open Parkinson Network (C-OPN) is a pan-Canada initiative bridging people, data and resources to accelerate Parkinson's disease (PD) discoveries. This national, open database for PD research fosters collaborations and information-sharing between scientists, clinicians and the PD community, alike. Nine of Canada’s top universities and movement disorders research centres from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec have committed to building C-OPN. This includes four Movement Disorders Centres of the Quebec Parkinson Network, the Pacific Parkinson’s Research Centre at the University of British Columbia, the Parkinson Research Consortium in Ottawa, the Movement Disorders Centre at the Toronto Western Hospital, the Movement Disorders Program of the University of Alberta and the Movement Disorders Program of the University of Calgary. The Network collects de-identified clinical data with comprehensive information about each participant’s family history, lifestyle and environment, along with details of their PD symptoms and medications; test results, including cognitive (MoCA) and motor (MDS-UPDRS) information; and a biobank with biomaterials extracted from blood samples, including DNA. These resources, and more, are made available to our C-OPN members, including researchers, clinicians and industry partners located in Canada and around the world.
