In just a few weeks COVID-19 has brought the hole Planet to his knees, it is a vicious, invisible enemy. To fight it the World is working together in unity. It is indeed the principle of participation and mutual help which moved YAM: coordinating designers, engineers, makers, creatives from Sicily YAM decided to step-up and do something concrete to face the emergency. The project is born within the incubator of the University of Palermo ARCA and is managed by YAM srl, which core-business is the design and manufacturing of boats, research and development and innovative technology in the field of additive manufacturing. CoronaScreen - 800A® is a PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) device, shielding face, neck and respiratory tract from external agents, liquids and infected aerosol. It provides clear vision, it’s splash proof, anti-fog, anti-bacterial, anti-glare, impact-resistant and causes no hearing reduction. It is comfortable and extremely light (<50g). Exactly because we are experts in 3D printing, we decided not to employ it on CoronaScreen - 800A. We employ other technologies such as water-jet and die-line cutting to maximise efficiency and avoid altering the properties of the materials. The aim is to provide CoronaScreen to doctors, nurses, paramedics, and medical staff for free, which is why we launched the crowdfunding campaign to finance the production: www.coronascreen.it
