COR Sandbox

COR (the Children’s Online Redress Sandbox) proposes a first-of-its-kind regulatory sandbox focused on children’s rights in digital environments and truly honouring them through young people’s active participation in the sandbox process. We are developing an international regulatory sandbox for online children’s care and redress which is based on children’s rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), specifically, Art. 12 about their right to have a say in matters concerning them. There are currently regulatory sandboxes in operation in more than 50 countries in the fields of fintech, transportation, healthcare and now AI. Ours is the first under development for the field of child online safety. Typically, a regulatory sandbox is a space where businesses can innovate new products or services without regulatory pressure under the supervision of a regulator. What distinguishes the COR sandbox, however, is that 1) its collaborative innovation will cover government policies as well as businesses' policies, products and services, and 2) it will have four stakeholder groups participating: youth, businesses (apps and platforms), regulators and researchers/experts –youth with full participation status, not the typical advisory role.
