Corylus Architects Ltd is a Sole Practitioner Practice. It was set up in 2010 by me it’s director Hazel Buckingham. Primarily I work on house extensions and refurbishments.
While my work is aesthetically diverse, my projects are linked by a focus on enhancing human relationships through architecture. I encourage dialogue around cost versus benefit of renewables and sustainable design.
Since 2010 I converted a barn which I now live in. Not only was it liberating to make my own design choices, it has given me personal insight into the importance of staying on program and within budget. It’s full of light and I enjoy very low heating bills due to the renewables and insulation I used.
During lockdown I learned how to use Passive House Software. This enables me to run independent u-value calculations and compare alternative approaches early on in the design process.
