Countertrace, LLC. has developed a patented high throughput technique for identifying and selectively containing and removing contaminants from complex fluids and gases to allow for focused reuse or disposal. We have created a unique polymer macroparticle that is able to be ‘programmed’ to attract and contain any desired contaminant within complex fluids, including carbon capture from air. These macroparticle spheres, sized 1mm-10mm in diameter, are covered in receptors that bind to the targeted contaminant, signals the acquisition via a color changing sensor, and is then easily filtered for reclamation, reuse, or disposal. Put simply, these hollow plastic pellets grab and hold a contaminant just with their presence in a fluid. Cost effective and scalable, the first application selected for this platform technology is water treatment for hydraulic fracturing operations. For example, the macroparticle spheres can be used to target and remove or optimize concentrations of Calcium, Magnesium, Barium, Iron, Borate, Sulfate and Chloride from oilfield water.
