The County Attorney Office was established under Section 4.3 of the Palm Beach County Charter as an independent office. It provides legal counsel and advice on a regular basis on all matters concerning the operation of the County to the Mayor and the seven-member Board of County Commissioners and all County Departments/Divisions, regulatory and advisory boards, as well as the Solid Waste Authority. Legal services include drafting and reviewing of ordinances and legislation; instituting and defending civil actions at all levels of State and Federal courts; and coordinating legal services in areas requiring unique specialization. The County Attorney Office is a diverse legal practice that services such areas as commercial and construction litigation, real estate and commercial transactions, appeals, employment and labor law, ethics law, worker’s compensation, environmental, land use and zoning law, governmental affairs, eminent domain, bankruptcy, economic development, municipal finance, taxation, as well as contract negotiations. The County Attorney Office does not act as legal counsel to the general public and may not advise individual citizens.
