Founded in 2007, the Cowen Institute was established to monitor, chronicle, and analyze the significant changes in New Orleans' public education system following Hurricane Katrina. The institute is named after Dr. Scott Cowen, President Emeritus of Tulane University, who played a key role in New Orleans’ recovery and the transformation of its education system. Today, our mission is fulfilled through two strategic pillars: contextualizing data to provide thought leadership and building practitioners' capacity to drive educational success.
