CRAL is under the joint supervision ofUniversity Lyon 1, CNRS and ENS de Lyon, and it hosts about 30 researchers, 20 en-gineers, technicians, administrative staff, and 30 doctoral, post-doctoral, fixed-term contracts.CRAL develops and manages instrumen-tal projects for the large observatories or space missions. It works in particular for the Very Large Telescope (with 4 primary mirrors of 8.2 meters) and the European Extremely Large Telescope (with a primary mirror of 39 meters) of the European Sou-thern Observatory, and for the European Space Agency. CRAL has an expertise in 3D and multi-object spectroscopy, and in ins-trument simulators. Furthermore, it has a know-how in massively parallel numerical simulations, high performance computing and image reconstruction.CRAL has its own technical platform (integration workshop, optical room, control-command room, mechanical workshop, electronic laboratory).
