CRCLR's mission is to catalyse the transition towards a circular economy. A circular economy is an economy which by design has a positive environmental and social impact at its core. Taking natural processes as inspiration, there is no such thing as waste. Every material can be transformed into something else, every process is designed as a closed loop. At CRCLR, we apply our ideas and experience to building circular concepts, knowledge, and spaces, in order to help create a more circular future. Our global economy is in crisis. It has evolved into extreme forms of production, causing extreme forms of waste and social inequality. We’re seeing excessive over-consumption and, at the same time, underutilization of resources. Waste is highly political: The most vulnerable populations are most affected. WE NEED A PARADIGM SHIFT. We need an economic system that by design has a positive social and environmental impact: the circular economy model. CRCLR stands for “circular”, as in the opposite of “linear” or “take, make, waste”. In order to address today’s grand challenges such as inequality and climate change, we need to change our current way of doing things: it’s necessary to invent new frameworks for our society and economy. Circularity is such a framework. CRCLR operates like a tiny solar system with several planets orbiting the circular economy paradigm at their center. One of these “planets” is the CRCLR Agency, which offers project development and consulting to help close the loops in partnership with policymakers and businesses. The other planets, our CRCLR houses in Berlin and Brandenburg, bring together a growing community of changemakers to collaborate on all things circular through co-working and community events. Doing things in a CRCLR way, to us, means becoming a catalyst for change: Because there is no “planet B”.
