Crewe Clean Team

Crewe Clean Team is a community group of volunteers. We are local residents who are passionate about improving our environment. We are achieving this through regular communal litter picks, bulb planting and other related activities. We will seek to educate local children in-school and to encourage their participation wherever practical. We held our first litter pick in January 2012 and have held at least one each month since. We have removed over 3000 sacks of rubbish from the streets and open spaces of Crewe in that time and now have a membership of over 240. We recycled our 200,000th aluminium can early in 2022. We meet on the 3rd Saturday of each month somewhere in Crewe and litter pick for 60-90 minutes. We recycle any aluminium cans or foil that we find. Afterwards we go for refreshments and a chat. As our membership continues to grow, we will hold more regular events. We have purchased our own equipment and this allows members to keep their own locales litter-free between the communal events. We were successful in persuading Cheshire East Council to add mass balloon releases to the list of events banned on their land. We are producing the Wildlife Planning Initiative to try to ensure that new developments provide habitats for wildlife. In February 2014 we were awarded the Crewe Town Mayor's Civic Community Award for our hard work over the preceding year. In April 2019, we received Crewe Town Councils Civic Award for our 'contributions towards Animals, the Environment and Wildlife'. In 2022, we were 'Highly Commended' at the BBC Make a Difference Awards. In 2022, we received an award from Every Can Counts for recycling 200,00 aluminium cans since we started.
