The Critical Minerals Challenge Centre is an applied research Centre at the University of Exeter, funded by a UKRI £5.6M grant plus partner contributions, growing to a £10M project. It builds on research at Camborne School of Mines including Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Good Growth Shared Prosperity Fund investments in equipment and laboratory facilities and Geo-Resources sector strengthening activities, as well as previous UKRI-funded research such as the Met4Tech UKRI Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre. Critical Minerals are the raw materials and enablers of the transition to Net Zero, and essential ingredients of all digital technologies and advanced manufacturing. The Centre brings new transdisciplinary links across the University of Exeter to research in ecology, sustainable investment, social studies, politics and policy to benefit research and innovation in critical minerals.
