About CryoSCOPE Research Project

The world’s cold regions—polar areas and high-altitude mountains—are changing rapidly due to global warming. Melting glaciers, thawing permafrost, and shifting snow patterns are disrupting river flows, ecosystems, and communities. These changes impact water availability, hydropower, and even global climate systems. CryoSCOPE is a collaborative research project studying the interactions between ice, snow, premafrost, the atmosphere, and water systems. By combining advanced modelling, remote sensing, and on-ground data, we aim to improve climate predictions and adaptation strategies for vulnerable regions like the Arctic, the Alps, and the Himalayas. CryoSCOPE brings together 19 partners from 8 countries, including top research institutions, universities, and climate experts. With cutting-edge technology and interdisciplinary expertise, we address key knowledge gaps in glacier, permafrost, and snow dynamics. Understanding these frozen systems is critical for climate adaptation. CryoSCOPE provides decision-makers with data-driven insights to manage water resources, prevent disasters like glacier lake outburst floods (GLOFs), and develop sustainable solutions for a warming world. Follow our journey as we push the boundaries of cryosphere science and climate resilience.
