The “Composites, Structures & Electronic Devices - 3D Printing Laboratory” (CSD-3D Lab) has been established by Prof. Lazaros Tzounis in 2021 as part of the Mechanical Engineering dept., Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), Greece. CSD-3D Lab consists currently of four (4) academic stuff members, five (5) PhD students, two (2) post-doctoral researchers, three (3) administrative and technical staff, and >twenty (20) undergraduate students. The Lab’s mission is to conduct contemporary research in three scientific and technological pillars: (i) Additive Manufacturing, (ii) CAD/ CAM/ CAE systems and reverse engineering, (iii) Materials Engineering, (iv) Polymer processing and (v) Applied Physics, with a high-level research infrastructure in the field of digital & precision manufacturing, e.g. 3D printing, composite processing, polymer processing, printed electronics (strain gauges, Thermoelectric Generator- TEG devices, sensors), etc. The Lab holds approx. an area of 500m2 within the university campus with the following equipment in its premises: (1) 3D printers of FFF technology (5 Intamsys, 3 Raise3D Pro2, one 3DGence Industry F420 and a Modix Big 60 V3 printer of 600×600×660 mm (XYZ)), (2), two SLA and an SLS machine, (3) polymer processing equipment e.g. a lab- to pilot twin-screw (8-15 Kgr/hr) extruder- granulator, a lab-scale (1-5 Kgr/hr) and a production (30-50 Kgr/hr) single screw extruder, (4) fab-lab facilities for polymer composite manufacturing (tow-preg preparation, hand-lay-up, thermal press, etc.), as well as (5) a fully equipped characterisation lab with tensile and 3-point bending testing machines at 1kN, 20kN up to 100kN, electrical characterisation, morphology characterisation though optical & SEM microscopy. CSD-3D Lab has huge experience in EU, national & industrially funded projects, while the Lab director has >15 yrs experience in EU projects. CSD-3D Lab has attracted ~1.5M€ funding from competitive research programs and private collaborations
