About Center for the Study of White American Culture
The Center for the Study of White American Culture (CSWAC) provides training, consulting and publishing resources. We offer a variety of online anti-racism workshops for individuals, organizations and corporations, and support for organizations and individuals preparing to participate in the increasingly diverse character of our nation. We believe such preparation is necessary for the US to achieve a truly just and fair multiracial society. Our central model is anti-racism, and our services are directly related to the mission of fostering an anti-racist multiracial culture free of white supremacy. We believe any effort to promote racial change must acknowledge that our society is structured by race, and this structure historically has promoted the interest of one racially-privileged group (white people) to the disadvantage of all other groups (collectively, people of color). This structure continues into our present time and our work is directed toward helping individuals and organizations undo it. CSWAC was founded in 1995 as a New Jersey-based 501(c)3 nonprofit by Charley Flint and Jeff Hitchcock, an interracial couple with a lifelong dedication to racial justice and equity. Jeff currently serves as Executive Director and Charley is President of the Board of Trustees. CSWAC remains a small put powerful organization. We operate on a fee for service basis, with additional support from foundations and donors. Over the time of our existence we have seen the topics of whiteness, white privilege, and white American culture move from being taboo discussion to now being open to public examination. We continue to engage in that public discussion and promote its growth. True to our founding purpose, we believe it is necessary to do so if the US is to achieve a truly fair and just multiracial society.
