The Counter Terrorism Research Group (CTRG) are a group of researchers at the Jill Dando Institute of Security and Crime Science at UCL, who analyse terrorism, extremism and radicalisation. Within this, our research focuses on the socio-psychological factors and pathways behind radicalisation, terrorist decision-making and situational prevention, evaluating the effectiveness of violence prevention programmes, and understanding relationships with other crime types, including mass murder, grievance-fuelled violence, and violence against women and girls.
We are a multidisciplinary group who incorporate methods, background, and expertise from psychology, political science, computer science, policing, and intelligence, both in and outside of academia. We focus on conducting rigorous, evidence-based, and highly applied research that is relevant for practitioners and policymakers. Our work asks and answers research questions that can improve or evaluate prevention of terrorism and violent extremism.
