Department of Jute and Fibre Technology, University of Calcutta

Established in 1951, the Institute of Jute Technology was initially an affiliated college of the University of Calcutta, created in partnership with the Indian Jute Mills Association. Situated on a land from the Tarak Nath Palit Trust Prangan within the Ballygunge Campus, the institute was managed by a Governing Council chaired by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Calcutta, who served as the ex-officio President. Following West Bengal Government Order No. 267/1(1)/EH/1U(C)-11-10 dated May 25, 2011, and Calcutta University Syndicate Notification No. CSR/32/11 dated June 27, 2011, the Institute of Jute Technology was transitioned into a Post Graduate Technology Department of the University of Calcutta, effective from July 1, 2011.
