Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority

The Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority is a Statutory Board of the Isle of Man Government, comprised of a Chairman and up to five Members with a range of experiences. The Authority has responsibility for licensing and regulating telecommunications, broadcasting, and utilities on the Isle of Man under the Telecommunications Act 1984, the Radio Masts Regulation Act 1988 and the Broadcasting Act 1993. The Authority recognises the need to ensure that the Island’s infrastructure and services continue to be leading edge, both to remain competitive and to develop new industries. In order for the Isle of Man to attract businesses that will contribute to its long-term economic development it must have a system of regulation that promotes stability and investment. Additionally, the Authority aims to protect and promote the sense of community on the Island by ensuring there is an appropriate Manx focus to local broadcasts through licence conditions and by supporting the Gaelic Broadcasting Committee. . An important part of the Authority's day-to-day work is licensing and monitoring compliance. This will continue to take up much of the Authority’s time, but the primary focus for the coming years is to modernise the regulatory framework on the Island and create the stability required to encourage investment and innovation.
