Curiosity Learning

An after-school program run by students, for students all over the Netherlands. Empowering students to take control of their own learning. OUR PHILOSOPHY: Life-long learners who are intrinsically motivated to learn are essential for a constantly developing and evolving society, yet the current educational system fails to recognize this in any significant way. Everyone is born with the natural desire to learn but there needs to be a space to allow this to happen. Curiosity Learning aims to do that through an after-school club for ages 11 and up called Curiosity Club. Learners are encouraged to learn with, and from, one another through projects they are curious about. Learners choose any topic imaginable, think of a project to do within it, and structure their deadlines. Once finished, they showcase their project and talk about their process, inspiring other learners to explore topics they hadn’t previously thought about. Creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration are among the most valuable skills of the 21st century and Curiosity Club has a gathering place, internet access, and a guide to motivate youth to practice these skills. The guide is a critical part of the club. They are 16 to 18-year-old students who don’t teach content, but instead, facilitate team-building, spark learners’ curiosity, and keep them accountable. Guides from different Curiosity Centers meet weekly to exchange ideas, support one another, and receive leadership workshops and resources. We provided our members, students and guides with the tools necessary to lead a creative, collaborative life - life-long skills valuable in every field. Alongside an educational opportunity, Curiosity Club is a space for students to express themselves and become authentic learners with unique interests.
