Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) is a mission/initiative of the Religious Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus (HHCJ). HHCJ is a Religious Congregation of Women Founded in Calabar Nigeria in 1931 by Mother Mary Charles Magdalene Walker of the Religious Sisters of Charity (RSC). Mother Mary Charles Walker’s apostate centered on empowering Women and the girl-child: educating them on their dignity and fundamental human rights as human beings. The desire to continue the apostate propelled the formation of Centre for Women Studies and Intervention. CWSI was registered with the corporate Affairs Commission in 1999 (CAC NO: 12,045). CWSI has consultative statues with the Economic and Social Council ECOSOC and in affiliation with the department of Global Communications) at the United Nations. Through its advocacy, Capacity building, awareness raising and sensitization, research and documentation, partnership and paralegal engagements, CWSI advocates for good governance, economic, political and socio-cultural rights.
