Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality

The Consortium for Graduate Studies in Gender, Culture, Women, and Sexuality, hosted by MIT, brings together feminist scholars and teachers from nine Boston area institutions for the purpose of advancing interdisciplinary, intersectional feminist scholarship and teaching in the areas of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Our credit-bearing graduate-level courses are available to Masters and PhD students from any discipline at our member institutions (Boston College, Boston University, Brandeis, Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, Simmons, Tufts, UMass Boston). Courses are team-taught, interdisciplinary, and rotate each year. GCWS hosts events for faculty, students, university staff, and the general public during the academic year. Events include the Feminisms Unbound panel series, Women Take the Reel, Feminist Intellectuals Reception, Graduate Student Conference, and more. The GCWS explores the intersections of power and identity including but not limited to gender, race, ethnicity, class, physical ability, nationality, religion, and language. We seek to cultivate collaborative intellectual communities across fields and disciplines, support innovative pedagogical practices, contribute to the professional development of graduate and PhD students and faculty, and provide a sustainable model of institutional collaboration. GCWS relies on shared expertise, wisdom, and vision to work toward a more just and equitable future for all people.
