Cyber Security Living Lab

The DIF Cybersecurity Living Lab is a new project aimed at innovating cybersecurity education, research, and practice. Located in the Dutch Innovation Factory (DIF), the lab puts the end user at the center, combining education with research and practical projects that have a social impact. It originates from the Risk Management & Cyber Security professorship at the Cyber Security Knowledge Center of The Hague University of Applied Sciences. The lab will establish its own Security Operations Center (SOC) for real-time threat monitoring, incident response, and shared risk management, initially targeting SMEs and companies in the Dutch Innovation Community, but also other companies and institutions. Students will gain practical work experience by setting up and maintaining the SOC, while companies receive insights and support in addressing cybersecurity risks. Beyond groundbreaking projects, the living lab will be a community for sharing cybersecurity knowledge and fostering the next generation of cybersecurity specialists. It will integrate existing research initiatives from academia, such as the Human Factor Lab and Cyberweerbaar NL, with industry expertise to co-create innovative cybersecurity solutions. This knowledge exchange will enhance cybersecurity risk management and SOC operations, laying the foundation for the SOC of the future. The living lab aims to build a vibrant learners community of students, educators, and industry professionals dedicated to advancing cybersecurity practices. Collaborations will include The Hague University of Applied Sciences, mboRijnland, Pinewood, SURF, and other partners in the Dutch Innovation Community. The lab will also offer internship and graduation opportunities, enabling students to develop in this fast-growing field. The experiences gained by students, researchers, and practitioners in the living lab will help them become and remain the skilled cyber security professionals the world increasingly needs.
