About Cyberthon Documentary

WHAT WAS CYBERTHON? Dubbed a “Virtual Kool-Aid Acid Test”, a “Woodstock” for the digital generation, Cyberthon was a 24-hour marathon celebrating the potential of Virtual Reality. Held on a film-studio soundstage in San Francisco on the 6th & 7th of October, 1990, the event was nothing short of a revelation for the 800+ attendees. But just as quickly as it happened, the dreams of Cyberthon would be eclipsed by the birth of the World Wide Web. Using 66 hours of proprietary archival footage from the event, our film intends to ask: How do the hopes and dreams of 1990 differ from the Metaverse conversations of our current moment? What insights? What cautions? What truths? These are our urgent questions. This is that untold story.
