CYNET is Cyprus' National Research and Education Network and a non-profit foundation under Cypriot law. CYNET provides advanced network services to the Cypriot Academic and Research community. It is responsible for administering, planning and implementing the Cyprus Academic and Research Network, including evolution towards higher speeds and advanced services.
CYNET is a member of the GÉANT Association, a partner in the GN5-1, GN4-3 and GN4-3N projects and an associate member in the EUMEDCONNECT3, AfricaConnect3 and EaPConnect projects. CYNET has a 2+2+1 (London, Frankfurt and Athens respectively) Gbps connection to the pan-European research network GÉANT and used to host in its premises one of the two PoPs used in the EUMEDCONNECT3 network. CYNET participates in the GÉANT Framework for IaaS and GÉANT SIG-MSP (Management of Service Portfolios) and is also the facilitator of the Cyprus Internet Exchange – CYIX. In the
meantime, CYNET is working on the development of a National Dark Fiber Network. One of CYNET’s projects was the establishment and operation of the Academic Computer Security Incident Response Team of Cyprus.
