About Daring Adventures, nonprofit organization
Daring Adventures is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities and significant life challenges through the power of outdoor recreation. Vision: We believe that everyone regardless of ability should be able to enjoy the outdoors in a meaningful way. This means Daring Adventures adapts the activity to meet the needs of the participant, not the other way around. Daring Adventures helps individuals overcome the physical, attitudinal, and financial barriers to outdoor recreation by providing specialized adaptive equipment, support, guides and assistants. We focus on inclusion, bringing together persons with and without disabilities. We emphasize what each individual can do instead of what they can’t do. This empowering approach helps change social perceptions about disability; non-disabled participants see individuals with disabilities in terms of their capabilities instead of their limitations. All participants gain a new appreciation of their physical and mental capabilities and their ability to overcome barriers. Daring Adventures is built on the foundation that all of us have the full right to participate in all of life's adventures! Everyone has the right to be challenged, to fail, to succeed, to build resilience. Our greatest achievement is showing individuals that they can accomplish a challenge that they’ve been told is out of reach and seeing their remarkable reactions and transformations as a result. Daring Adventures has an integrative approach; our activities are open to, and attended by, "able-bodied" persons as well. Our activities are NOT “a special program for people with ‘special needs’”- they are for people of all walks who want to explore and enjoy nature. Our staff Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists provides training to volunteers to assist participants as needed while leaving room for as much independence as possible.
