Data Protection Alliance (DPA)

The Data Protection Alliance (DPA) is dedicated to the men and women who safeguard the world's most important asset: data. DPA's mission is to guide and support its members to achieve the highest levels of professional knowledge, skill, connection, and achievement. Some DPA members are Data Protection Officers (DPOs) for multi-national organizations that do business in both North America and Europe and are regulated by the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Some members are responsible for data protection as a C-suite executive (CIO, CISO, CFO, COO, Chief Legal Officer, or Chief Compliance Officer) or as a manager, team lead, or analyst. Other DPA members are tasked with ensuring compliance with US data privacy laws [e.g., California (CPRA/CCPA), Virginia (VCDPA), and Colorado (CPA)]. There is no comprehensive nat'l privacy law in the US — yet — and we support passage of meaningful reform-minded legislation. Regardless of your title, as a data protection champion you should understand applicable technologies and regulations; learn to formulate good policies and procedures (and enforce compliance); be able to navigate organizations and build teams; communicate challenges and successes effectively; and contribute positively to the data protection and data risk management community. The DPA is here to help you as a data protection consultant, instructor, engineer, architect, product manager, software developer, journalist, academic, graduate student, or regulator.
