He works for organisations that cannot justify employing a full time “in house” designer, but realise that they need one in order to manage their design and marketing requirements. Companies will buy blocks of days on a monthly retained basis. That way, they get the services of a skilled design practitioner, on tap, but without the headaches of employment and pensions.
