One of my greatest work passions are Performance Tuning - and worked with that for more than 25 years, both on SQL Server and Oracle. And I have specialized to do this, looking at things from the SQL Server perspective. I have developed "statspack" for SQL Server. Statspack is a tool from/on Oracle, for those who know that.
It's my version of Query Store, with much less impact on your system than Query Store. And then it works on SQL 2008 R2 and above - Query Store is only from SQL 2016. It's my toolbox for optimizing performance on SQL Server.

My approach is time – where is time spent? And then I find a solution to reduce that time. I have never been performance tuning at a SQL Server installation where I haven’t been able to reduce the workload or time spent by at least 50%. The reason why I mention both workload or time spent is that it depends – are you waiting on work to be done or are you waiting on locks or lack of other resources. Often you don’t need to buy a bigger server – spent some of that money on me instead, and get more out of less ;-).
I also implement Dynamics AX Solutions – from advisory about infrastructure to setup and installation of the Dynamics AX elements or review of your running installation, with all the Best Practices and experience I have leaned since version 1.0 of this product (since 1998).
