DBR l Design Build Research

DBR is a group of architects, engineers, builders, and researchers operating within the fields of the built environment. Established in 2015 in Addis Abeba, our diverse team strives to bring innovative design approaches to projects across Ethiopia and Africa. Our practice, rooted in collaboration and experimentation, extends globally with teams and firms from all parts of the globe. With six visionary leaders, we leverage BIM for highly coordinated projects, exceeding planning, and design to support cost management and facility operation. In collaboration with our strategic partners, we have delivered some of the unique projects in Addis Ababa, from high-rise buildings to civic centres, city parks, and branded hotels. Within our DESIGN studio, we aim for the highest design standards. We explore different approaches from local and international perspectives through an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach. In the RESEARCH domain, we engage in comprehensive exploration of the built environment, specifically Housing. Our RESEARCH space encompasses a workshop for building prototypes and experimenting with alternative materials. In the BUILD sector, we utilize research and workshop insights to develop and construct efficient, small-scale housing prototypes for small plots. Our overarching mission is to create cities that enhance human and environmental well-being and addressing public needs through research, design, and collaboration.
