DC Community Carrot

After several shootings in the Petworth neighborhood of Washington, DC, residents told city leaders that they don't want to reduce crime by having increased police presence and cameras. They want their neighborhood to look like every other community. Instead, they want to know that everything possible is being done to provide Opportunity Youth with the tools they need to find jobs. When one neighbor said, “These kids are frustrated entrepreneurs, and the street is the only place they can ply their trade,” the idea for DC Community Carrot was born. Entrepreneurs need role models, access to capital, and education in order to start their businesses. And that’s exactly what we provide. Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by helping entrepreneurial Opportunity Youth create businesses of their own that will last a lifetime. We provide the mentors, education, and access to capital needed for entrepreneurs to succeed Our vision is to create pathways to the middle class for D.C.'s Opportunity Youth (18-24)
