Initially called the Department of Exact Sciences, it covered the areas of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. On March 26, 1986, the Physics area became a department and on August 31, 1990, the Department of Numerical Analysis and Statistics was renamed the Department of Computer Science and Statistics - DCCE. Currently, the DCCE teaching staff consists of 14 professors. At the undergraduate level, the Department offers courses in Computer Science (bachelor's degree), Mathematics (bachelor's degree and undergraduate degree), Food Engineering, Biological Sciences (bachelor's degree and undergraduate degree), Biological Physics (bachelor's degree and undergraduate degree) and Environmental Chemistry (bachelor's degree). At postgraduate level, some of the Department's professors are responsible for the postgraduate program in Computer Science (master's and doctorate). The laboratories and research groups under the responsibility of DCCE professors are: Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Development Laboratory (LIDIA), Parallel and Distributed Systems Laboratory, ACME! Computer Security Research, Database Group (GBD), Bioinformatics Laboratory, Data Analysis Laboratory (LAD), Software Engineering Study and Research Group (GepES).
