About TU Delft | DCE&S
The DC Systems, Energy Conversion & Storage (DCE&S) research group at TU Delft has the mission to perform excellent research and education related to the integration of renewable energy sources and energy storage in dc networks and future (dc) transmission grids. This includes solutions and challenges for Electric mobility (charging with renewable energy and inductive charging) related to smart cities, DC systems, microgrids and energy hubs for integration of Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Storage (Electric vehicles, batteries, fuel cells. DCE&S has strong background and expertise in power electronics, including system integration of wide band gap devices. DCE&S consists of 50 researchers: with 1 full professors, 7 associate and assistant professors, 2 postdocs, 32 PhD students and researchers and 6 technicians. There are several laboratory facilities available to support the DCE&S research team to host BSc, MSc and PhD thesis projects. The research efforts are performed in collaboration with various other research groups and with industry partners. At the ESP Lab, we are able to simulate and test the behaviour of sustainable energy sources and components in large-scale energy networks, and developing and testing network models to simulate the behaviour of different large-scale energy networks linked together. The ESP lab comprises a DC lab facility for obtaining knowledge and experience from HVDC systems for wind energy integration to MVDC and LVDC (micro) grids with integrated renewable energy sources and energy storage. The DC lab is equipped with a DC power grid +-750V, bidirectional DC power grid of 1 kV for system test and multi-terminal DC grid with OPAL RT allows design of control and testing of MTDC network. The e-mobility part of the has setups for various electric machine and drive testing and validation, EV charger including V2G operation and EV emulator, and Wireless power transfer. The lab has test bench for cycling and testing battery.
