One of Dublin City University's largest and most active societies, DCU Dance is a thriving community for dancers of all levels to learn, grow, and express themselves.
Throughout the academic year, we host weekly beginners classes in various styles of dance, as well as the famed Workshop Wednesdays. This is a weekly event where students have the opportunity to learn from Irish and international choreographers. Styles of dance featured range from Contemporary, to Afro, to Heels!
The society also prides itself on the success of our Dance Squads- primarily Hip-Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Irish, Ballet, and Heels. The highlight of our dance year is the National Dance Intervarsities, where in recent years our Mixed Piece has had great success. Other events held throughout the year include The Full Monty and The All Ireland Dance Experiment.
In the 2020/21 academic year, DCU Dance faced great adversity as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we have proven ourselves a strong and vibrant society, no matter the circumstances. Our weekly classes and workshops continued online, and dance history was made with 'Varsities'. This was the phenomenon that saw university dance societies across Ireland submit video clips of their students to compete alongside a fantastic showcase of talent, judged by a panel of expert judges.
This initiative also raised over €1600 for The Mater Foundation, proving this year's slogan- Dance Can Unite!
