STAND is a response to the desire among young people, professionals and students in Ireland to be educated on & stand together against prominent justice and equality issues, to stand against those who are oppressed, and to stand up for a better, fairer world. STAND is a non-profit organisation founded in conjunction with SUAS in 2014.
STAND's mandate is based on the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. These Global Goals are the ''blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.'' They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, discrimination, professional and economical development, environmental degradation, peace and justice. The 17 Goals are all interconnected, and in order to leave no one behind, it is important that we achieve them all by 2030.
DCU STAND aims to provide students the opportunity to:
1. Better their understanding of prominent justice, equality, and human rights issues,
2. To engage with various experts, leaders, representatives, and professionals in their chosen fields,
3. To grow a network of like-minded friends and peers,
4. And prepare for life after graduation through multiple interactive, practical workshops & events that the society holds throughout the year.
