De Nobili School

De Nobili fraternity is a chain of 8 school located in Jharkhand, India. The school is named after a Jesuit, Roberto de Nobili, who was the first foreigner to master Sanskrit, incognito, in sixteenth century Madurai. He apparently conducted himself like an orthodox Brahmin and is even said to have declared himself to be a descendant of Brahma. But he was also a Christian missionary. On the school shield, Vidya Dadati Vinayam is the opening fragment from the sixth verse of the preface to Hitopadeśa, Hitopadesha a collection of fables that provide "Good Advice". The entire verse translates to "Knowledge giveth humility, from humility he attaineth worth, from worth, wealth he attaineth, from wealth the power of being religious, from thence happiness". The schools run primary, secondary and higher secondary curriculum. With it's branches spread across Digwadih, Chandrapura, Dhanbad, Sindhri, Sijua, Mugma, Maithan & Bhuli, the school dedicated towards various dimensions of an individual growth besides academics. This entails a major part of the growth curriculum to be comprised of co-curricular activities. It is affiliated to CISCE. Owing to the considerable focus on the holistic development of the students, De Nobili is counted as one of the best schools in Jharkhand.
