Misschien was het wel deze gedachte die Carolus De Wieuw er omstreeks 1880 toe bracht om de eerste kadertjes te gaan vervaardigen. Zijn grootvader, Jacobus De Wieuw, had zich zestig jaar eerder reeds in Antwerpen gevestigd maar hield zich voornamelijk bezig met het snijden van kurk.
Acht generaties later is De Wieuw nog steeds gevestigd aan de Scheldestraat op het bruisende Zuid te Antwerpen en ondertussen uitgegroeid tot één van de voornaamste producenten en verdelers op de Belgische markt op het gebied van kaders, inlijstingen en wanddecoratie in het algemeen.
Sinds de lente van 2009 vind je bij De Wieuw, op een in de Benelux ongeziene verkoopsoppervlakte van 2000m², tevens het grootste assortiment kunstenaarsbenodigdheden. De Wieuw is een waar kunstenaarswalhalla, niet alleen voor elke schilder, beeldhouwer, designer, architect of fotograaf, ook de student vindt er zijn basisbenodigdheden.
