DearU is a fledgling 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aimed at providing an opportunity for high-school age students to embark on a path of self-discovery, hosting lectures and giving them college-student mentors in hopes of helping them build a relationship with themselves and their interests, as well as help them figure out what life path they want to take. An important part of post-secondary education for a student is to understand themselves, their behaviors, and their interests. However, while there are a lot of college programs revolving around getting into university, there aren’t many specifically targeted at helping students discover their interests and gain life skills in order to smoothen their future journey. A lot of students in the modern era have encountered confusion in their own self-identity while not knowing where to begin or what to do in order to solve that confusion. DearU's goal is to bridge this self-understanding gap— to provide mentorship and support to high school students so that they can better understand what drives them and help them formulate their goals and interests as they graduate from high school and enter a new stage of life. We hope to expand our program to a larger group of students and help support them in discovering themselves and their pathways in life. As of now, our goal is to recruit at least 15 students and 8 mentors for the upcoming school year, and several people have already expressed interest in volunteering or participating in the program for next year. By the end of our recruitment process, we hope to gather a significant number of students that we can provide 1-on-1 mentorship to and help on their journey. Not only that, but also build a network of connections among participants and mentors to empower students as they discover their interests and continue to strive for self-growth in areas such as managing stress, conquering their fears, understanding their own ways of thinking, etc.
