Designing Democratic Schools

This page is meant to form a global community of Democratic Schools. Together, as a community we will explore questions and intentions that lead to the design of meaningful school practices and systems. What do democratic learning environments look like in different global contexts? How do we balance student autonomy and structure? What are windows into the true culture of schools? Democratic schools describe a culture that views young people, teachers, families and communities as key decision makers in how schools contribute to fulfilling the goal of improving communities and addressing seemingly intractable challenges.
