Design Guru is a Toronto-based agency specialized in using design, open source software and social media to allow communities to communicate more easily and grow.
We take a holistic approach to online placemaking - a process of planning for and building spaces which facilitate and encourage social interaction online.
Our focus on contextualizing space online is oriented around the notion of 'community.' We design, develop and strategize for the conversion of 'space' to 'place;' where people become personally engaged with interfaces and each other through them.
In the world's largest social space, it is important to be able to articulate using a variety of media with an understanding of cutting edge technologies, tools and platforms. The Design Guru approach entails a commitment to leveraging the flexible scalability of Open Source Software (like OpenX, Drupal, Wordpress and Joomla) using seamless practices for social network integration and streaming media.
Additional to partner and client work, we are constantly incubating ideas of our own that improve web experiences; be they from the side of producer, consumer, conversationalist or observer. As well, we attempt to relate a larger impression of the evolving media industry through our designguru.tv video interview series and events.
