Desler Lab

The Desler Lab at the University of Copenhagen focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms of aging and age-related diseases, particularly through the lens of cellular senescence and mitochondrial function. By investigating how these processes influence metabolic health and immune response, the lab aims to identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets for noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular conditions, and kidney disease. Using advanced cell models and interdisciplinary collaborations, the lab explores the interplay between aging, inflammation, and cellular health. A notable current initiative includes leading the EU Horizon project POINT, which examines the long-term effects of COVID-19 on NCDs. Through this research, the Desler Lab strives to uncover potential interventions and improve health outcomes for aging populations, aiming to contribute significantly to the fields of biomedical research and public health.
