Der gemeinnützige Verein DGJ ist der einzige bundesweite Zusammenschluss von Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern in einem frühen Karrierestadium (z. B. Tenure-Track-Professur, Juniorprofessur/Qualifikationsprofessur mit und ohne Tenure-Track, Nachwuchsgruppenleitung, Emmy Noether-Programm). Der Verein steht dabei in engem Kontakt mit der Politik (z. B. BMBF und Landesministerien), Wissenschaftsorganisationen (z. B. Wissenschaftsrat, Junge Akademie) oder Hochschulverwaltungen.
