Founded in 1976, the Physics Department (DFis), was one of the first departments of Aveiro University. It is the Organic Unit responsible for teaching, scientific research and technological enhancement in the Physics area.
Currently the DFis offers an innovative, diversified and interdisciplinary education of 3 study cycles - 6 Bachelor degrees, 5 Master degrees and 3 PhD programs - aiming at a high quality education and employability, recognized by the industry.
It also differentiates itself from other national physics departments, by carrying out important research in over 20 internationally recognized subfields of physics and having associated research units of excellence, such as i3N, CESAM and CICECO.
