dgMarket e-procurement marketplace is the largest, oldest and most well-endowed portal for tenders and consulting opportunities worldwide. For 18 years, dgMarket has played a significant role internationally, fostering trillions of dollars in international trade, enabling public procurement transparency and enhancing value-for-money, for the Suppliers, Buyers and Funders. dgMarket was created as part of Development Gateway (DG) in 2001, at the initiative of the World Bank. With solicitations from national governments, and international agencies, currently the portal integrates about 1 million procurement notices (tender notices, contract awards, and bidding documents) per year, covering about $1 trillion tender opportunities, in over 190 countries. From the very beginning of Development Gateway, the focus was to provide the development community with global public goods as part of DG’s public service mission. This was achieved, inter alia, in the form of global databases accessible online. Access to global information online became easier and widespread with the emergence of the Open Data movement. To adapt to the changing environment, Development Gateway shifted the focus of its public service activities from the provision of global information to meeting the information needs of developing countries and publishes its tenders directly. These shifts led Development Gateway to divest the assets related to dgMarket by selling them to a private sector entity, dgMarket International, Inc., a Delaware Corporation led by a serial entrepreneur and philanthropist, Aditya Jha.
