DiagnosTEX performs a dysphagia consultation in addition to the Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS).
The MBSS team includes an ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) certified, dysphagia trained, Speech Pathologist, a Licensed Medical Physician, and a trained technologist. Our physician performs an evaluation by taking a history, talking to the patient, family, Speech Pathologist, chart review, and then performs a focused expanded physical exam and recommends management of the patients Dysphagia problems to the treating physician and the patient in a Doctor-patient relationship. Our Speech Pathologists complete a 3 month training program and conduct the highest quality MBSS coupled with full audio dictation and a highly detailed report on the swallow pathology including diet and treatment recommendations.
The service offers an alternative to transporting a patient to an outpatient, free standing facility such as a hospital. The philosophy behind the mobile MBSS is that the overall results of the test are more representative of a patient’s swallow function, since they are in their own wheelchair as used during meals and at the location in which they reside.
