Created by PhD students from Newcastle and Durham Universities for the YES Competition 2024, DiagnosTree have designed a tree-specific lateral flow device to rapidly detect the presence of disease-stemming fungi within trees. This enables the immediate detection and removal of hard-to-diagnose, infected trees to prevent mass spreading. Our proof of concept involves the detection of Conifer Root and Butt Rot that threatens conifer trees globally, and thereby the timber, construction, paper industries, and the environment as a whole.
