Dialysis Vascular Access Coalition

The Dialysis Vascular Access Coalition (DVAC) is a coalition of medical specialty societies, physicians, and vascular access centers of excellence (VACs) in the office and ASC setting that provide vascular access services to individuals with advanced chronic kidney disease and End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). VACs treat more than half of a million cases per year across the country in a safe, specialized, patient-preferred setting. VACs are separate and distinct from centers where ESRD patients receive dialysis treatment through a dialysis machine (which acts like an artificial kidney to filter out toxins and remove excess fluid). Before dialysis treatment can begin, physicians must first create a “vascular access” to the patient’s bloodstream to allow the patient to connect to a dialysis machine. Our members not only provide the specialized services to create and maintain vascular accesses for the hundreds of thousands of Americans in need of dialysis treatment, but also work to maintain and preserve these accesses to ensure continued uninterrupted dialysis treatment on an ongoing basis thereafter.
