The Dialogue Association was established in 2002 by experts working with communities in Northern Hungary region to create a network of professionals who can learn and develop together in the region. The organisation since then has been working on the development of active civic participation and local communities. In the first decade, we built a network of professionals and organisations working mainly in remote rural areas. In the course of our work in small settlements, we worked mainly with deprived and disadvantaged groups. In 2009 we started to work more actively in the regional center Miskolc, where with the people living there we established and still run a community space in response to local needs. Our work targeting mainly informal groups was later complemented by capacity building programmes in which, in addition to training and mentoring, we also provided financial support to newer community based organisations. Since 2020 we have gained experience in developing and implementing different participatory methods. Over the past years with our partners we have implemented Citizen Assembly, several SocialHackathons, Community Planning processes, also we have been involved in the design and further development of the local Participatory Budget. Currently, one of our main objectives is to work with our partners to strengthen the rural civic sector and support different levels of active civic participation.
