The Diamond Grove Scholars is a research community currently located at The Ohio State University and is looking to expand to other universities in the near future. The Diamond Grove Scholars’ purpose is to provide accessible STEM outreach to K-12 students and research and workshop experience to college students. Diamond Grove is the birthplace of the revolutionary agricultural engineer, Dr. George Washington Carver. Dr. Carver once said “Start where you are, with what you have. Make something of it and never be satisfied.” Following what Dr. Carver said, the Diamond Grove Scholars will continue to make something of what we have now and never be satisfied. We will continue to work harder and improve STEM accessibility for all.
The Diamond Grove Scholars was founded by undergraduate and graduate students at The Ohio State University spanning across a multitude of fields such as Aerospace Engineering, Microbiology, Food Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics, and more.
The Diamond Grove Scholars aspire to create accessible pathways into space research for all students – in Ohio and beyond – by fostering student leadership, educating K-12 students on STEM career and research opportunities, encouraging, and supporting student-led research, building lasting connections between students and industry professionals, advocating for diversity and accessibility in STEM environments, and providing students with the skills, resources, and community necessary to start a successful career in STEM. With all of the advancements of tomorrow and what lies in the future of space travel and the commercialization of space, if students are not interested and do not have a part in it, then we as a community need to do better because our students are the future of what we do now. That is why it is our mission to involve as many students as we can in STEM.
