I decided to leave academia to open a nonprofit private practice for pediatric and adult neuromuscular patients. Under the same roof, I opened a for-profit research facility dedicated to neuromuscular conditions.
Why? Because the system is unfair to the patients and more to patients with rare diseases. We are getting so good at developing disease-modifying therapies, but we forget about primary and long-term care. Access to and transition of care is more challenging every day.
On the other hand, I got burned out, like most physicians these days. The system is taking away our autonomy and the real reason we went to medical school.
My vision/goal/dream is to provide better care and more opportunities to my patients and families. I need your help to make this a reality.
